AI Overview Checker
What the checker looks at
Structured data
JSON-LD markup (Article, FAQPage, HowTo…) that lets machines parse the page.
Concise answers
A direct, quotable answer in the opening paragraph.
Headings
One clear H1 and a logical H2/H3 outline answer engines can navigate.
FAQ
Question-and-answer blocks that map to what people actually ask.
Freshness
Machine-readable, recent publish and update dates.
Author & E-E-A-T
A named author and E-E-A-T trust signals.
Citations
Outbound references and concrete data points worth quoting.
Extractability
Server-rendered text, lists and tables — content a crawler can lift.
How the score works
The checker fetches your page once and evaluates 8 deterministic on-page signals — the same axes our full AI analysis scores against your real SERP competitors. Each signal contributes a weighted share of the 0–100 total; blocking directives (noindex, nosnippet) cap the score because they make citation impossible. The scan is heuristic and instant: it does not crawl your whole site and does not look at your query or competitors.
This was the surface scan.
The free checker reads your page in isolation. The full SerpTune analysis fetches the competitors that actually rank for your target query, compares them to your page with AI, and returns a prioritized action plan: semantic gaps, UX issues and exactly what to change to get cited. Frequently asked questions
What is an AI Overview citability score?
It is a 0–100 estimate of how easy it is for answer engines — Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity — to quote your page, based on 8 on-page signals: structured data, answer-first writing, headings, FAQ blocks, freshness, author signals, citations and extractability.
Is the checker really free?
Yes. No account, no email, no credit card. It is rate-limited per visitor so it stays fast for everyone.
Why does my page score low even though it ranks well?
Classic ranking and AI citation reward different things. A page can rank on links and authority while still being hard to quote — no direct answer up front, no structured data, content rendered only in JavaScript. The score reflects quotability, not rankings.
How do I actually get cited by AI Overviews?
Fix the weak signals this checker reports, then look at what the currently-cited competitors do better. That comparison is what the full SerpTune analysis automates, with a prioritized action plan for your specific query.
